Sheryl
Lee Ralph:
Center Stage in Support of The Serra Project
|
A Faire of the Heart XVII honors
the original "Dreamgirl," who performs a moving
excerpt from her one-woman play "Sometimes I Cry"
|
On
September 10, 2006,The Serra Project's single most important
fundraising event of
the year lived up to all of its promises—and then some.
Held in the International Ballroom of the Beverly Hilton,
A Faire of the Heart XVII was electrified by the presence,
talent and energy of Sheryl Lee Ralph—prominent AIDS activist
and star of Broadway, film and TV. The highlight of the night
was a 40-minute performance by Ms. Ralph of a portion of "Sometimes
I Cry," her provocative one-woman play about the loves, lives
and losses of women infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. |
|
For her unflagging
dedication to bringing the AIDS crisis into focus through
her performances and many charitable efforts, Ms. Ralph
was honored with The Serra Project's Hope award. Joining
Ms. Ralph was her husband, Pennsylvania State Senator Vincent
J. Hughes, who took enormous pleasure in presenting the
award to his wife before family, friends and several hundred
of The Serra Project's most loyal supporters.
Proceeds from
the evening, which included a cocktail reception and lively
silent auction, help fund The Serra Project’s essential
services to homeless individuals and families living with
HIV/AIDS.
This year's A Faire of the Heart is scheduled for December
5th at the California Club.
