Long Beach, CA, December 1, 2005In observation of
World AIDS Day, some of the most vital AIDS organizations in Long
Beach—among them Being Alive, the Long Beach Dept. of Health and
Human Services and the C.A.R.E. Program and Clinics—came together
today under the banner “Stop AIDS: Keep The Promise” to remember
those who have passed away from the disease and to celebrate the
lives of people who help ease its catastrophic effects.
Held at the First United Methodist Church, the event included
the presentation of two awards. Strength for the Journey, which
offers a unique and unifying camp program, received the group
award; and The Serra Project’s own Terry Soldano, director of
group homes and manager of Casa Portiuncula/Long Beach, was singled
out for the Individual Humanitarian Award.
A wrap-up of the event—along with a picture of Terry—was featured
on the front page of the Long Beach Press-Telegram under the headline
“AIDS warriors honored.”
